Litigation

  • (Master ACM building list) Removal of ACM cladding to front elevation of the entirety of Co-operative House
  • (ACM candidates) MEDIUM-HIGH that the present building is c.2008 (two independent sources plus the inscribed dates and the four-block horseshoe plan). NIL on architect. ROUTE LEFT: RIBApix record riba58728, ‘Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society Ltd., Rye Lane, Camberwell, London: the entrance’, which 403s to automated fetching and needs a real browser. NOTE the RACS architect named on Wikipedia, Frank Bethell, is tied to the Central Stores and Bostall Estate 1900-1914 and NOT to Rye Lane; and S. W. Ackeroyd’s 1938 Powis Street store in Woolwich is a DIFFERENT building

2008 the date the CURRENT BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED (London Postcode Walks, 31/12/2017). Derek Kinrade’s ‘Rye Lane: A Short History’ for Peckham Vision: ‘In 1932 the Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society built the prestigious Co-operative House (nos.259-267), remodelled on a store that had opened in 1913’. The Peckham Society in 2008 called it a conversion but also said the developers ‘have replicated some of the Co-operative House, in part, on the new development’, which points to new build with replicated fabric. SO: c.2008 NEW BUILD, not a 1913 shell
